I was a little hesitant, because I was familiar with White Diamonds and it wasn't something I enjoyed on myself. It is a very light, barely-there fruity scent which is very wearable during daytime for pretty much any occasion. I know more developed noses than mine won’t like that I’ve pegged this as a mature scent, but I’m sorry, it is! Being a huge fan of Diamonds and Rubies, I expected to like this based on the listed notes and reviews, so I bought it without testing first. The main dominant note is Lilly-of-the-valley, and it is mellowed out with the melon, rhubarb, and spices; and all the the other notes work so well together.

This is a spicy floral scent, and it does have a superior projection and sillage, typical of Elizabeth Taylor's fragrances. The rhubarb note, so shrill in newer scents, is not allowed to screech here and is heavily tempered by spices and another deeper darker lily that is unnamed in the notes listed here. Apparently, all the perfumes she tried she didn't like, plus a lot of perfumes smelled alike to her and she ended up layering several perfumes to get one scent she would like. Even though this one is not my favorite and chances are I’ll never wear it, I enjoy the scent because it evokes fond memories.Although peach is included, Diamonds and Sapphires truly is not a sweet scent - it is a mature fragrance with a distinct aquatic base. I can see the similarities mainly due to the melon and the spice but I think Escape is much sharper which I love in a perfume. The parfum is a strong, elegant and ever so aquatic interpretation of the melon/LotV scent that many brands have created and done exceptionally well with.
